5.22|International Biodiversity Day
The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in May 2001, proclaiming May 22 every year as "International Biodiversity Day" to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. Biodiversity is not a simple concept about animals, plants, etc., but an important concept related to the quality of human life and development.
The Secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) officially announced the slogan of the International Day for Biological Diversity in 2022: Building a shared future for all life.
Q1 What is biodiversity?
"Biodiversity" is no longer just an environmental protection concept, but involves a multi-level life community of nature and culture.
The natural heritage sites inscribed on the World Heritage List include the most important natural habitats based on the in-situ conservation of biodiversity, including habitats of endangered species of outstanding and universal value judged from multiple perspectives of science and conservation.
Q2 my country is one of the countries with the richest biological species on earth
my country is one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world, with all types of terrestrial ecosystems, including forests, shrubs, meadows, grasslands, deserts, wetlands, etc., as well as marine ecosystems such as the Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea. At the same time, my country is rich in biological genetic resources and is the origin of important crops such as rice and soybeans. The scale of cultivated plants and domestic animals ranks first in the world.
China is a country rich in biodiversity. Take higher plants as an example, there are about 30,000 species, the United States and Canada combined are about 18,000 species, and the whole of Europe has 12,000 species. Due to the predatory exploitation and utilization of natural resources by human beings, the rich biodiversity has been seriously threatened for several years, and many species are becoming endangered species. In 1992, my country became one of the first six countries in the world to ratify the Convention on Biological Diversity, established the Biodiversity Conservation Committee, and formulated the China Biodiversity Conservation Action Plan.
The fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) will be held in Kunming, Yunnan from October 11 to 24, 2021. This is a landmark and historic conference. The meeting formulated the 2021-2030 Global Biodiversity Goals and the 2050 Global Biodiversity Vision to fully realize the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
International Biodiversity Day
Winner Environmental Protection takes solving the serious industrial water pollution problem in China as its mission, and works with respected enterprises to strengthen the protection and governance of the ecological environment, reduce industrial pollution and damage to the water environment, and actively face the challenges brought by sustainable development. Green and low-carbon technologies protect biodiversity and build a multi-level community of life in nature and culture. It can be said that the protection of biological diversity is equivalent to protecting the cornerstone of human survival and social development, and protecting the foundation of human cultural diversity, which is to protect human development.
Biodiversity is a global issue, and protecting biodiversity is the unshirkable responsibility and obligation of every citizen. Let us act together - build a community of life on earth!
